Hernández studied Political Sciences and Administration at the National Autonomus University of Mexico and has Master´s credits in Public Administration at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
She is a renowned politician of professional prestige. Her experience in public service –encompassing Government, Congress, the international arena and the private sphere– has borne fruit over a long career of results.
In her role as Secretary of Tourism under President Ernesto Zedillo, she designed and coordinated a tourism cabinet that led to the promotion of tourism with outstanding results through increased foreign investment and foreign currency entering the country.
Silvia was Senator for a fifteen-year period. She designed and presided over the Competitiveness Committee under the Senate, and attained unparalleled consensus during a time that was fraught with difficulties in the political negotiation and agreements process. This achievement translated immediately into economic benefits for Mexico. She was also Chairwoman for the Committee of Foreign Affairs for North America.
She has been awarded the Gandhi Prize, the Professional Merit Award as Minister of Tourism (1999), and was named Woman of the Year by American Chamber of Commerce (2004).
At present she is the President-Associate of Public Strategy Consultants (Estrategia Publica Consultores). She designs and directs successful strategies to achieve the business objectives that are required in making public decisions.
